"Wurst Vacation"

"Wurst Vacation"
Hostel (2006)
January marks the 20th anniversary (!) of Eli Roth’s franchise-starting Hostel, which
premiered at the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival and hit theaters in early 2006.
In Hostel, a shadowy organization kidnaps and tortures a group of college-aged
tourists in Europe. The film’s climactic scene, in which (spoiler!) a survivor exacts
satisfyingly brutal vengeance, particularly enthralled Spencer.
“Eli Roth takes things to the absolute extreme,” Spencer says of the filmmaker
also responsible for Cabin Fever and Thanksgiving. “He wants you to squirm in your
seat, to push the boundaries.”
“Bring a drill, bring an ax, the fun has just begun / I’m going old school, a gun is
too American.” A colossal chorus akin to Andrew Lloyd Webber, juxtaposed with vicious
lyrics, punctuates “Wurst Vacation,” the Hostel-inspired song peppered with German
phrases and dialogue, giving it an extra European flair.
Spencer and Joe rented out a house in Lake Arrowhead, California, where they
cranked out the chorus, working with a musical bed from producer Drew Fulk and co-
songwriter Josh “K.J.” Strock.
Things came full circle with Eli Roth and INK when our fellow Massachusetts
native joined us at Silver Scream Con.
Get your New Year started right by throwing on Hostel and cranking up “Wurst
Vacation!”
