We love our holiday-themed horror flicks

From Black Christmas to Halloween, we love holiday-themed horror flicks. As the
4th of July weekend approaches, here’s a short list of killer genre classics set on
Independence Day.

Cape Fear (1991)
Martin Scorsese’s remake of the 1962 original, itself an adaptation of a 1957 novel, co-
starred a young Juliette Lewis, who will make her Silver Scream Con debut at this
year’s Silver Scream Con V!

I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)
Not one but two Fourth of July holidays in this Kevin Williamson-penned slasher.

Jaws (1975)
The OG summer blockbuster that inspired “Rocking the Boat” turned 50 last year.

The Return of the Living Dead (1985)
Horror-comedy classic with a punk edge. It marked the directorial debut of the late Dan O’Bannon, who co-wrote Alien and Total Recall and worked in visual effects on Star Wars.

The Shining (1980)
Of course, we associate the film that inspired “Enjoy Your Slay” with snow and that
image of an ice-covered Jack Nicholson. But who can forget that iconic final shot from
Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece, Stephen King’s adaptation, and the caption of the
mysterious photo? “Overlook Hotel July 4th Ball, 1921.”
